Badlands (1973) [PG]
Loosely based on the real-life crime spree of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate, a lonely teenager falls in love with a troubled young greaser and is pulled into his sociopathic, violent wake.
Starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek near the beginning of both of their film careers, Badlands was the first film of Terrence Malick, one of the greatest American directors of his generation. In 1999, Martin Sheen remarked that the script to Badlands was still the best one he had ever read.
Bad Romance: A Film Series
A trio of crime films where love ain’t what it’s cracked up to be: an Academy Award winning musical set in a Roaring Twenties prison, a classic film noir, and a fictionalized retelling of an infamous crime spree. Valentine’s Day is next month; this month love doesn’t pay.
