Summer Wars (2004, Sci-Fi/Adventure/Romance, 1h 54m, PG)
Join us as we watch director Hosoda Mamoru's heartwarming fourth full-length animated feature, Summer Wars.
Kenji Koiso, a high school student and math whiz, agrees to take a job offer from Natsuki, a cool upperclassman and his crush, and together they attend her great-grandmother Sakae Jinnouchi's 90th birthday party. What Kenji doesn't know is that the Jinnouchi family is large, quirky, and (formerly) wealthy, descendants of a particularly brave samurai. Things get predictably awkward when Natsuki claims that Kenji is her fiancé, but they take a dramatic turn for the worse when Kenji's talent for numbers results in a malevolent AI hacking into OZ, a digital world that has become deeply intertwined with all levels of every-day life all over the world. However, this AI has a secret link to the Jinnouchi family as well...meaning Natsuki’s whole family, Kenji included, will have to come together if they want to take responsibility and save the world.
The Auditorium opens at 6:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink are allowed in the auditorium during the film. We will be watching this film in English.
