Harold and Maude (1971)
The MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama celebrates Valentine's Day with one of the greatest love stories ever told, Harold and Maude. Harold Chasen (Bud Cort) is a young man from a wealthy family obsessed with death. Maude Chardin (Ruth Gordon) is a senior closing in on her eightieth birthday obsessed with living. They "meet cute" at a stranger's funeral and form a friendship that grows into love. This twisted romantic comedy features Oscar Award winner Gordon in one of her best roles. Cort is an absolute delight, and a creepy precursor to Winona Ryder's Lydia character in the Beetlejuice films. Harold and Maude was rated PG by the MPA by the standards of 1971. The film contains adult language, adult situations, adult themes and dark adult humor. Cat Stevens contributed much of the soundtrack. The auditorium opens at 6:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink are allowed in the auditorium during the movie. 91 minutes.
