An Afghani-Danish man recounts his life’s story, which is visualized through a combination of animation and archival video footage, finally finding the courage to recount the traumatic secret he’s kept hidden his entire life: in a desperate attempt to escape from post-Soviet Russia, where they had fled to escape mujahideen forces in the aftermath of the Soviet-Afghan War, his family made a devil’s bargain with human traffickers.
Flee was nominated for Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
